The Lough Boora Parklands is a beautiful new landscape at the heart of Ireland in the Boora Bog complex near Kilcormac in Co Offaly. The Bogs were originally used as Bord na Mona bogs who harvested peat from these bogs since the early 1950‘s and in the mid seventies started to develop these production areas for new land uses.
The Lough Boora Parklands has a range of activities ensuring that there is something for every visitor to partake in. The area is a haven for active visitors ranging from the large number of walkways and meadows to roam and engage with the extraordinary landscapes. Visitors can interact with nature and art or use it as a place to exercise the body and mind. The parklands can also allow people to pursue in their favourite hobbies such as cycling, fishing and bird watching while stopping and availing of the lovely picnic facilities.Area’s Within the Parklands of interest include: Finnamore Lakes, Turraun wetlands, Mesolithic site, Sculpture in the Parklands and Cloghan wetlands. The Borra Parklands has 3 main walking routes. The Mesolithic Walk, The Farmland Walk, and The Sculpture Walk, which all vary in length. The park has 4 course angling lakes, 2 cycling paths and there is also the Sculpture in the Parklands.
The park provides an information office where visitors can avail of information about Lough Boora Parklands extraordinary past, as far back as 9,000 years ago, the unique flora and fauna and industrial peat harvesting.
