Leap Castle was built in 1250 A.D. by the O’Carroll’s, princes of Ely, It was built on a most powerful site facing the Great Pass through the Slievebloom Mountains to the province of Munster. It has a massive tower and walls nine feet thick. Gory murders are said to have taken place there mainly at a window high up in the tower. Leap Castle, Known as Ireland’s most haunted castle is only open to visitors on request. The Castle is privately owned and must be pre arranged, Small groups catered for and Banquets can be arranged on request.
